Anne-Marie returns with another infectious bop in the form of “Ciao Adios.”Coming off the back of the Caribbean inspired Christmas number one Clean Bandit and Sean Paul collaboration, “Rockabye,” comes another tropical influenced hit.
“Ciao Adios” keeps the originality of “Alarm” but mixes it the mainstream nature of “Rockabye” – and god does it sound good!
The track is a lot better than the title sounds, it’s a tropic-tinged hit that follows the typical pop rules – but does it brilliantly.
Marie’s sweet voice works perfectly over the guitar led song and offers a perfect juxtaposition to the sly digs that are being made to an ex – ‘cause all exes deserve a bitchy comment or two!
The only negative on this song is it’s opening, “yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, nahhh,” I’m not a fan of pointless adlibs that don’t add to a song – and this is one of them!
“USED TO TAKE ME OUT, IN YOUR FANCY CAR AND MAKE OUT IN THE RAIN/AND WHEN I RING YOU UP DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE ‘TIL I HEAR HER SAY YOUR NAME/USED TO SING ALONG, WHEN YOU PLAYED GUITAR/JUST A DISTANT MEMORY/HOPE SHE TREATS YOU BETTER THAN YOU TREATED ME, HA”
