Sarah Solovay has just become the new metaphor queen with “Rough Draft.”
You may not recognise Solovay’s name but don’t go thinking she’s new to the music scene, the 22-year-old is a two-time Grammy nominated artist with “Gone.”
It’s no surprise that she has previously been selected by The Songwriters Hall of Fame, “Rough Draft” is a beautifully written mid-tempo pop track.
The highlight of this beautiful song is its metaphor of comparing yourself to a rough draft, it’s so simple, but it works!
“SO IF YOU WANT ME YOU GOT ME, GRANTED IM SCATTERED AND SLOPPY BUT YOU CANT SEND ME BACK, IM JUST A ROUGH DRAFT, SO CUT ME AND CROP ME, AND WHEN IM READY MAKE COPIES, AND ONE DAY THE REAL THING MIGHT BLOW YOU AWAY”
What I’m getting from the lyrics are that none of us perfect, but if I and your special person keep working together you’ll become ‘better’ and closer to perfect
Solvay’s soft yet strong vocals were perfectly over the simple mid-tempo grooves of this ballad – it’s definitely made to make the listener to pay attention to the lyrics.
