What do you do when there is nothing to write about? That’s right, do a compilation/playlist article.
So, we’re three months into 2017 so all the music channels will start airing the best-selling programmes any time now.
2017 is faring a lot better than 2016, I mean, music legends are still alive, so that’s one thing!
Let’s be honest, was anybody excited about 2017 in terms of music? Beyond the Superbowl and Beyoncé’s now cancelled Coachella performance, there was nothing notable to be majorly excited about.
However, the music released so far has actually been pretty damn good – part thanks to Lorde.
Here is our list from ten to one:
10. “Shape Of You” – Ed Sheeran
This song is this low down on the list because of how overrated it is. Yes, the song is catchy and takes Sheeran into a different zone, but c’mon, nine weeks at number one? Really?
9. “Bloodstain” – Wrabel
The lyrics of this song aren’t groundbreaking, the effect of love has been sung about many times. Here it’s the production and the emotion in Wrabel’s voice that makes this song touching and quite frankly brilliant!
8. “Childhood Dreams” – ARY
This synth-heavy song claimed our first Song of The Week. And still, what a song it is! It packs a punch with it’s recurring beat that drives the song from start to finish!
7. “Shether” – Remy Ma
This track isn’t here for its greatness. It’s here for its savageness and buzz factor. This song caused earthquakes in the music world, making Nicki Minaj cower for a couple of weeks. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song so scathing in my life…and that’s why you should listen to it.
6. “Chained To The Rhythm” – Katy Perry
Political? Check. Blasting Trump? Check. Performances that slay? Check. All this and Perry still killed us with two new hair style in one month! Also, this song is surely one of her most underrated!
5. “Better Things” – DYLAN
As I said in the original review, this song compiled all the best bits of pop over the last six months to a year and packed them into this song! And what a song it is!
4. “Liability” – Lorde
‘Heartbreaking’ is possibly the only word to describe this song. It breaks your heart from start to finish with its simple piano and Lorde’s touchingly untouched vocals.
3. “Samaritan” – ionnalee
Number three is a new track, but oh my, isn’t is amazing. It’s haunting, it’s beautiful, it’s strange, but ionnalee makes all the weirdness come together.
2. “Green Light” – Lorde
People don’t like this song because it doesn’t sound like Lorde – ARTISTS HAVE TO GROW! It is fun, carefree, yet somehow underpinned with pain and anguish. Melodrama is set to be amazing when it arrives in June.
AND OUT NUMBER ONE IS…..
“Wild Love” – Elle King
This song hasn’t set the charts alight, but that doesn’t mean it’s not amazing. The sounds and lyrics aren’t groundbreaking, but they sure make for one amazing song. The song is fun and makes you smile, surely that’s what we all need when the world is seemingly imploding in politics?
