The Magnettes – “Young and Wild” | Review

The Magnettes bring carefree pop vibes for their new single, “Young and Wild.”

The Swedish band (of course they’re Swedish, they always make amazing pop) are made up of RebeckaDigervall, Sanna Kalla and Tomas Bäcklund Thuneström – or ‘Sisters of The Ugly Youth’.

On their site, they describe the meaning behind the ‘ugly youth’, “Why does beautiful have to be the standard? Why can’t anything that is not totally perfect be cool? We have no regrets. We’re saying exactly what we want to say” – pretty cool, right?!

“Young and Wild” is totally different to their previous single, “Sad Girls Club,” which carried more of a pop-punk sound, compared to airy, dreamy and carefree vibes of “Young.”

The girl’s vocals start off with a very strong similarity to Melanie Martinez, matched with the initial minimalist background gives off the same vibes as Cry Baby, however, that soon changes as the pop explosion on the chorus hits!

The Magnettes have definitely got versatility on their hand, “Young and Wild,” “Hollywood,” and “Sad Girls Club” all sound different, so who knows what we’ll get next!
