Song Of The Week: Halsey – “Eyes Closed” | Review

Halsey brings the fire on the shoulda-been lead single, “Eyes Closed.”

If you read our review of her last single (and the actual lead single from Hopeless Fountain Kingdom), “Now Or Never,” you’ll know we were far from impressed.

However, “Eyes Closed” brings the punch needed to make the impact that the first single needed!

The subdued verses lay the path for the killer production (and general melody) that the chorus brings!

Her voice and the production run side by side perfectly, even when the beats peak above her voice, it still fits the song.

Lyrically, the song is a little like Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” talking of wanting and dreaming of someone else, while being with someone else…

Now if I keep my eyes closed, he looks just like you, but he’ll never stay, they never do/Now if I keep my eyes closed, he feels just like you, but you’ve been replaced, I’m face to face with someone new

This is finally what I needed from the star! “Now Or Never” just didn’t bring it – this is exactly what her brand needed to launch this new era.

And let’s all sigh in relief that we’ve got through another single that doesn’t sound like “Closer.”
