Camila Cabello – “Crying In The Club” | Review

Camila Cabello‘s debut solo single, “Shape Of You” “Crying In The Club,” brings together the best in pop from across nearly two decades to create a pretty decent track!

In case you didn’t here, Cabello left Fifth Harmony back in December and people were pretty pissed off about it.

Well, not time’s passed and she’s featured on a few hits with the likes of Machine Gun Kelly and Pitbull and because us music buyers are so fickle and forgetful, she is fully forgiven.

So, let’s address the elephant in the room, the verse sound like a mix between Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape Of You” and Sia‘s “Cheap Thrills,” which are both great songs – but do we really need their baby?

Luckily, the verses lead into a pretty fucking epic chorus that you’ll have stuck in your head for the whole day – and leads us into yet another influence, Christina Aguilera!

If you’re listening to the chorus and don’t hear “Genie In The Bottle” when she sings “AH-ah-AH-ah-AHH” then you must have hearing problems. Thankfully for Cabello, this seems like it was meant and not just a blatant rip-off.

I will put my hands up, I genuinely thought this release would be a non-event and be a bit shit, but I’m really impressed! While the melodic similarities slightly bug me, this is a very strong debut!

We might just be seeing Cabello a lot more in the charts if she keeps up this kind of greatness!
