Ne-Yo – “Another Love Song” | Review

Remember when Ne-Yo was the biggest thing in music? Well, at lot’s changed since 2006 and his new single, “Another Love Song,” doesn’t sound like it will relight his former flame.

Take yourselves way back to 2006 when Gnarls Barkley was ruling with “Crazy,” and another jam was topping charts, Ne-Yo’s “Closer.” Those were the good old days when I was only 11 and didn’t have a care in the world.

At that point, Ne-Yo was the man to collaborate with, not like now, where he’s more of a songwriter than a vocal collaborator.

What made Ne-Yo stick out was not only his amazing songwriting and ear for a hit, it was that he was different to everybody else at the time, with his slick r&b hits that had a throwback, timeless vibe – Year Of The Gentleman was a classic.

Since then, starting with “Beautiful Monster,” Ne-Yo’s output has gone down in quality, seemingly chasing the pack he once led – which is unfortunate because he’s had some tunes since, “Let Me Love You” and “She Knows” are jams!

“Another Love Song” shows flashes of the Ne-Yo we loved way back in the naughties with a very slight throwback vibe, but this song still feels like a less cheesy, slightly more r&b version of Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling.”

Sorry, Ne-Yo, but we’re not here for this once – let’s hope the album is better.
