Ella Eyre is back with a new sound on her new Ty Dolla Sign assisted single, “Ego.”
It’s been two years since Eyre’s fabulous debut album, Feline, which had more a retro-soul vibe to it, not fitting in with anything at the time.
Two years on, Eyre’s fitting more into the musical landscape, but does it work?
Well, I’m not sure.
The song is perfectly enjoyable, with its quivering bass that lies under the production and it’s anthemic like chorus – and Eyre’s vocals are powerful and unique as always.
But it doesn’t exactly make you want to listen to more the way “If I Go,” “Together” and “Comeback” did for Feline.
Dolla Sign’s addition adds another layer to the song and breaks it up, but again, it’s not really standing out.
It might be a grower, and we hope it is because Eyre is a very talented woman – but let’s hope there are more instantly loveable tracks to come!
