Jorja Smith X Preditah – “On My Mind” | Review

Jorja Smith seamlessly blends her old-school, jazz-esque vocals with a modern production, thanks to Preditah, on her new single, “On My Mind.”

Jorja Smith has already made a big splash in the industry, not only being backed by Drake (and pretty every other music pop publication), she’s got two features on the hip-hop star’s More Life as well as opening for a few dates on his U.K tour.

You’d never guess from her singing voice that she comes from my hometown of Walsall – think of the Birmingham accent but not as strong, yet somehow more common.

“On My Mind” mixes together two different eras, while Smith’s vocals sound a lot older than her 20 years, they perfectly work with the garage style production.

It’s nice to hear Smith over a different style production, we usually hear her over a soulful, modern pop sound, and it’s great, but this new vibe she’s offering really works and sounds like a natural fit for her.

Preditah is an amazing producer and could have easily stolen the show, but smartly he tones down his usual sound for an understated beat that lifts Smith’s vocals to another level.
