Rod Stewart is trying to relight his success on the single front by re-releasing “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” (for a second time), featuring DNCE – and we really wish he hadn’t.
Why do stars feel the need to try and turn back time, especially when they’re still successful – Stewart still gets great album placements but his last top 10 single was back in 1997, weirdly with the re-release of this song, featuring N Trance.
“Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” originally peaked at number one in 1978 and has remained one of the stars biggest hits.
Unfortunately, he’s trying to ride the same wave he was surfing 40 years ago and it’s just not happening.
If this was released on its actual anniversary it might be forgiven a little bit more, but it simply comes across as a desperate appeal to be current.
The song feels more of a DNCE track, featuring Stewart, which really shouldn’t be the point and it doesn’t help with the single’s meh-ness.
Stewart’s voice has always been like marmite – you either love it or hate it – but it now seems to be wearing incredibly weak and thin and it doesn’t make for a comfortable listen.
Some people, of a certain age, will love this track, it will bring back a sense of nostalgia with a modern feel, but it’s not working for me
He and DNCE will be performing this track at this years VMA’s – unfortunately.
