Daya – “New” | Review

Daya is back with the larger than life, “New.”

Following her great debut album, Sit Still, Look Pretty, an album that played around with colourful bubblegum pop sounds, she has returned a little more grown up and God did shit get epic up in here?!

“New” isn’t lyrically inventive, it’s talking about missing your past love while you’re lying with a current partner (or one night stand, who knows); “I’m in his bed, right next to him but he don’t know I’m just thinking ‘bout you.”

Tbh, the production isn’t going to change pop forever, but it does what it does very nicely, fitting in with the emotional production breakdowns that have become synonymous with her collaborator friends, The Chainsmokers.

The main draw here is Daya’s voice – it’s a vocal that you can’t help but fall in love with everytime you hear it, it’s kinda magical and sounds like it should be on a bigger platform than what she already has!

We’re glad she’s back, we just hope there’s more originality in the next single.
