Raye – “Decline” | Review

Raye breathes new life into Ashanti and Ja Rule’s classic tune, “Always On Time,” on her new single, “Decline.”

It looks like Raye is our new party queen, with hits under her belt with tracks like “You Don’t Know Me” and “The Line,” it seems there’s no stopping her, and the fact she can back it up with actual proper vocals (see “Sober (Stripped)” gives her credibility.

“Decline” takes the catchy and iconic chorus and a┬ásimilar production pattern of “Always” but puts her own fresh spin on it while still having a distinct nod to the early-naughties R&B stylings it’s influenced by.

Following Dua Lipa’s “New Rules, the track adds a sassy punch with the line from it’s original, with a message that is stronger today than ever.

“I was always there for you, oh/ I was always on time/ And I gave you my all/ So now you call, I decline.”

Raye is expected to release her next project in early 2018, and we already can’t wait!
