ALMA – “When I Die” | Review

ALMA plans her own funeral on the confusing, but kinda great, “When I Die.”

The Finnish artist continues to climb the ladder of fresh popstars that are seemingly coming from everywhere. Following the generic “Cowboy,” ALMA is back on track with an erratic new single.

Part of what makes “When I Die” so enjoyable is that it doesn’t really have a particular sound or structure, it’s kind of everything thrown into (almost) three minutes.

Opening with a country-esque guitar riff, the track quickly installs some synths to bring the classic, yet more experimental, ALMA sound we’re used too – but those country sounds are still there in the background.

The structureless song probably won’t gain the recognition it deserves, but, hopefully, it’ll find it’s way into clubs where  ALMA demands you to “Dance, fucking dance. M-m-motherfucking dance.”

Honestly, if ALMA’s funeral is as exciting as she wants it to, it’ll be a party for the century – hopefully, it’s many moons away!

The era of brilliant popstars like ALMA, Charli XCX, Zara Larsson, Troye Sivan, Tove Lo and many, many more is here, and I can’t wait for it to fully explode.
