Kim Petras – “1,2,3 dayz up” (ft. SOPHIE) – Review

Rising pop Princess, Kim Petras, continues her run of flawless singles with the release of not one, not even two, but three new tracks – “1,2,3 dayz up,” “Homework” and “If U Think About Me…”

Petras has gone from strength to strength since her first single back in 2017, quickly rising to the top of the pop-pack as well as being the new Queen in the LGBT+ community.

The most striking and obvious hit of the three tracks is the catchy and current “1,2,3 dayz up,” featuring the avant-pop production from the Grammy Award-nominated SOPHIE.

The tropical synths that once littered pop and EDM sound fresh and new here, along with the synthesised vocal that gets you ready for a beach party.

Simply put, it’s a bop from start to finish, and does what Petras does best and gets everyone on their feet.

Just because “dayz up” is the most commercial doesn’t mean the other two are terrible – in fact, “If U Think About Me…” is bloody brilliant.

The sparsely produced track has a rousing undercurrent that runs up to the atmospheric chorus where Petras’ vocals are allowed the room to flex.

The final track, “Homework,” featuring lil aaron, is a midtempo ballad that reminisces back to the days when ‘someone’ (an ex? just a friend? who knows) always let her copy his homework – an many more school memories.

Like “IUTAM…,” Petras’ vocals are allowed to shine and lead the track to an epic final singalong chorus.

We can’t wait for an album – can we please have it soon!?
