Avril Lavigne – “Dumb Blonde” ft. Nicki Minaj | Review

Avril Lavigne sounds just like you’d think a 2019 Lavigne would sound on her Nicki Minaj assisted track, “Dumb Blonde.”

Lavigne is making sure everyone knows she’s releasing her new album, Head Above Water” this Friday (15th), revealing the most ‘Avril’ song she’s given us this ear.

Following the impressive “Head Above Water” and “Tell Me It’s Over” is no small feat, so what’s the best thing to do? Flip the script of course.

“Dumb Blonde” is the kind of track you’d expect from Lavigne in 2019 – in the best way possible. It brings a new lease of life to the album campaign, one that was shaping up to be an all-around mature affair.

The punchy track takes us back to the days of “Girlfriend” with its attitude filled lyrics and ballsy delivery, something that’s usually a staple in a pre-album single for the eight-time Grammy nominee.

The chorus is catchy as hell and will be stuck in your head from first listen with its easy flow and empowerment statements for strong women.

“I’m a babe, I’m a boss and I’m makin’ this money/I can flip like a switch and I cut like a blade/I can sting like a bee, but I’m sweeter than honey/And I’m quick as a whip so get outta my way”

Oh yes, and Minaj is here for a moment.

The rapstress is always a joy to have on a song, but recently, her pop features seem less inspired than usual, like she’s just going through the motions, sounding bored – although her verses are still a moment!

Will it be a “Girlfriend” sized hit? Unlikely. But it will please fans of the star!

Check out the track below and let us know what you think in the comments!
