Austin Mahone proves he still doesn’t know his sound on his latest track, “Why Don’t We.”
Mahone found fame on YouTube, posting covers of songs and amassing four million subscribers – he was basically expected to be the next Justin Bieber.
However, those hights were never reached, nowhere close, to be honest. His biggest hit is the Pitbull-assisted “Mmm Yeah,” which went on to sell 500,000+ copies in the US – surprisingly, steaming has pushed its sales in Denmark to over 2.5 million copies.
“Why Don’t We” isn’t a bad song, it’s perfectly okay, but like many of Mahone’s singles, it doesn’t have anything special to make it, or him, memorable.
The saving grace of the song is how present his vocals sound, he’s always putting his all into tracks – it’s a shame it doesn’t pay off.
Has Mahone had the bad luck of the draw, always being cast in Bieber’s shadow? Maybe. But releasing better and more unique material would overcast this.
