Emeli Sandé is back with the anthemic lead to her upcoming third album, “Sparrow.”
Track your minds way back to 2011/2012 when Sandé was just starting off a singer-songwriter, the Scotland born woman was literally everywhere, almost inescapable – for some, it was a little too much.
Following the mega-selling “Or Version of Events” came a couple of years break before coming back with the ever dreaded sophomore album, “Long Live the Angels,” and while it didn’t light the singles charts alight, the album sold tonnes and she went on to win a Brit!
Now, we’re here, 2019, a completely different musical climate where streaming is the way forward, and artists like Sandé are usually a physical seller – but let’s not focus on charts, because “Sparrow” is a bloody brilliant return.
Sandé’s vocals open the track along a simple piano and it’s an instant reminder that she’s back, soulful and everpresent, with a voice to prick anyone’s ears.
The chorus brings a gospel, atmospheric drum that resonates with the listener – the track almost sounds like a stance, a speech to relight a fire under everyone, especially in these tough times.
Will we see the same success that her debut yielded? If “Sparrow” is anything to go by, then yes, yes we will!
