Lady Leshurr brings her playful side back on her new track, “I’ve Gotta Be Me.”
Like many people, Leshurr first came to my attention after “Queens Speech 4” blew up and took the Brummie rapper’s career on a whole new trajectory – I’ve been pretty obsessed since.
Her Mode EP was the last time we’ve seen the more lighthearted side of the rapper’s personality after more serious releases like the brilliant “Black Madonna” and “Horrid” – and we’re glad to see it.
Leshurr’s wordplay and comic timing have always been her main strength (along with her live energy which is incomparable), and the self-empowerment anthem once again shows this ; “I’m the answer, no second guesses/I wear what I want I barely wear dresses/I’ve been like this way before adolescence/I turned all my no’s into yes’s.”
The bouncy flow of the star offers something we’re getting less and less of in hip-hop; diction. You know everything Leshurr says, which is refreshing in the days of mumble rap which is honestly becoming tiring!
Leshurr’s career keeps going from strength to strength, recently opening for Nicki Minaj on the Birmingham date of her world tour!
