Avicii – “SOS” featuring Aloe Blacc | Review

“SOS” is the first posthumous single by Avicii from the upcoming album, Tim, featuring vocals from Aloe Blacc.

I think I speak on behalf of everyone reading this that news of Avicii’s death last year was a huge shock – one of the worlds biggest and most successful producers just gone, especially following the release of his EP only months before, Avīci (01), the first of three that never came.

“SOS” was produced by Avicii before his death, according to Albin Neder and Kristoffer Fogelmark who finished the track, said that the song was 75-80% finished and they only additional production done was to Blacc’s vocals.

The lyrics are kind haunting with hindsight, “Can you hear me? S.O.S./Help me put my mind to rest/Two times clean again, I’m actin’ low” – a cry for help that came too late.

The production, as always with an Avicii track, is faultless, clicking away before the inevitable euphoric EDM breakdown for the chorus.

Blacc does himself and Avicii proud, his vocal exuding emotion with every note – which shouldn’t come as a surprise if you tune into his solo stuff!
