Shawn Mendes – “If I Can’t Have You” | Review

Shawn Mendes releases another track that sounds just like a Shawn Mendes track with his latest single, “If I Can’t Have You.”

Mendes has come a long way from his Vine days, becoming one of the worlds most recognisable faces…and bodies following his Calvin Klein advert.

Here’s the thing, “If I Can’t Have You” isn’t a bad song, in fact, it’s pretty good and while the lyrics are in similar territory to his other tracks, it’s definitely evolved and better.

However, back on my first listen of the track I knew exactly what to expect – a slow, subdued verse that gains anticipation before a rousing, fast-paced and broken pre-chorus followed by the usual guitar led and chanty main chorus.

It’s like someones told him to just copy the same structure from his previous songs and change a few lyrics.

It’s a shame because if this was the first song he released that followed this structure we’d be fully here for it, but there are only so many times we can listen to what is basically the same song.

Check the track out below and let us know what you think in the comments!
