Mary J. Blige – “Thriving” With Nas | Review

Mary J. Blige is back at the top of her game with the minimalistic, but effective “Thriving,” with Nas.

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has never really had a bad moment, constantly releasing quality soul filled R&B over the past 30 years – even if the charts don’t reflect that, her awards do!

“Thriving” runs off the back of a repetitive guitar riff and a simple reoccurring synth beat, which doesn’t sound very exciting, but the flow of Blige feels like you’re running towards something, increasing anticipation throughout the whole song.

As always, the Queen’s vocals are on point, never one to oversing, while Nas brings a definite 90s vibe to his delivery that gives us throwback feels.

It would be nice for the song’s key to change over the last minute to add an extra layer, but this works really well to get us ready for whatever the stars going to release next!
