Lana Del Rey has covered Sublime’s 1996 track, “Doin’ Time,” and it’s her best music in a while.
Lana is made for life, her fanbase laps up everything she releases, wears and does in general, but it’s no secret that it’s been a while since she’s released something that stands out amongst her moody discography.
The original “Doin’ Time” was set over hip-hop infused lite-reggae production and it pretty brilliant, to be honest, but Lana does what she Lana does best and ‘Lana-fies’ it, making it a moody, summer road trip vibe.
The stars voice and the way she sings is unique and instantly recognisable, mostly due to the way she almost slurs between words with a laidback, relaxed dictation and it makes the song sound nothing like the original.
The reggae vibes are gone and replaced with a light and breezy production that we don’t really hear much from the star anymore – it honestly takes us back to the Born To Die days.
