Madison Beer discusses the pressures of social media on her new single, “Dear Society,” the lead single from her upcoming album.
Beer may not have had a huge chart smash, but she’s killing it with streaming numbers, dwarfing those seen by the music industries big stars.
“Dear Society” takes a refreshing look at the impact of social media and being a ‘star’ in today’s climate – and honestly, I think we can all connect.
The big draw of this song, more than the stunning, simplistic production is the lyrics, something Beer should be very proud of.
“Been 21 since 17, thanks to all the magazines/Man, sometimes, I just wanna scream and break my screen…Dear society, you’ve pushed me to the edge/So here’s some clarity/The truth is, you’re the one who’s always there for me/With my daily dose of internet/And all the things that I should quit, but can’t.”
The autobiographical nature allows us to connect with Beer in a way we never have before – just on lyrics alone, this track could be a smash.
The simpler way she tackles the track allows the lyrics to shine, the production bubbles away and vocally, it’s extremely restrained.
