Emeli Sandé gives us a rare upbeat moment on “Extraordinary Being,” off her upcoming album, Real Life, and from the soundtrack to X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Let’s just say it, Sandé is one of the best vocalists to ever come out of this country, and she deserves a lot more recognition for it! While her previous two albums were hugely successful (her debut, Our Version Of Events especially), but I feel she doesn’t get the same wave of excitement that a Sam Smith or Adele release gets – I mean, fair on the Adele front because most don’t, but you get my point!
“Extraordinary Being” is an upbeat song, something we rarely get as singles from the star, who usually serves us ballads (which are always great), but it’s amazing to hear Sandé’s voice over something different – the throwback soul moments are to die for.
Lyrically, the song is about lifting someone, telling someone (or the masses) that they’re great, so you know, a usual self-empowerment anthem.
It does get a little wordy at parts, but I feel like it just about pulls it off.
Will this be a humongous chart smash? No. But it does increase the anticipation for her upcoming album, something that will sell shed loads!
