Song of the Week: Katy Perry – “Never Really Over” | Review

Katy Perry returns and gives us the song we never knew needed in our lives with “Never Really Over.”

Okay, it’s safe to say Perry’s last era wasn’t her best, especially following three back-to-back albums packed of number ones and year defying hits – it just didn’t pack the punch it needed, although “Roulette” was the bop of the year, sue me!

But we’re putting all that behind us with her new single, “Never Really Over.”

When Perry announced she was releasing a single this week, we wondered whether she’d fit in 2019’s musical landscape as two years away in today’s culture is like a decade – but it’s like she’s never been gone.

The track jumps on the feelgood energy that we come to Perry for, her voice sounds bright and infused, something that was missing from “Witness.”

The production which was led by Zedd has a definite 80s vibe that just makes you want to stand up and dance around with your friends – this would fit right in on Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Emotions.”

It’s just a great song that’s insanely¬†catchy, and it doesn’t help that Perry is heading it – it’s nice to have you back!
