Nicki Minaj – “MEGATRON” | Review

Nicki Minaj returns to her more old-school mixtape days with new single, “MEGATRON.”

It hasn’t even been a year since Minaj dropped Queen, her fourth album which was critically praised but failed to reach the heights that the hip-hop front runner is used to, so it’s no surprise a brand new single has come out so soon.

“MEGATRON” has a dancehall vibe, something that Minaj toys with every now and again, but something she used quite a lot back in her mixtape days, a sound she should definitely play more with.

Minaj’s flow seems relaxed and less urgent than most of Queen, possibly as the album was fighting so hard to prove she’s still at the top of her game, but this chilled approach works just as well.

This song won’t blow you away lyrically, but to be honest, it doesn’t need to, the record is going for song of the summer, not an Ivor Novello award for songwriting.

“They call me Megatron, just did a telethon/He got Margiela’s on, and I                           get my jealous on”

Will this launch Minaj back to the top five? No, probably not, but it’s a fun introduction to what she’s going to hit us with on this next era.
